Still Life
In the process of creating this piece, I mastered the techniques of space and size, as well as harmony and balance in my work.
I took my inspiration off of the example piece I was given. At the beginning of the process of the drawing's creation, I drew this with light shadows and no colors, during the process however, the shadows got darker and the highlights became more prominent.
If I could, I would like to do the shading differently. I would like to have a paper or something preventing smudging so the drawing was more clean.

Self Portait
My peice is a self portrait composed of willow charcoal, compressed charcoal, and white charcoal, which is a drawing of myself, surrounded by song lyrics in white. Most obvious however is the stark black of my hair.
In my peice, I sketched myself out with
For my charcoal self portrait, I learned how to use a grid and a pencil to measure faces and draw my face accurately. I also learned how to use text to convey meaning. I took inspiration from artists Käthe Kollwitz, Juan Osbourn, and Jamie Poole. Käthe was the first artist to mix realism and abstract, and she drew herself often. From Juan Osbourn and Jamie Poole I pulled ispiration on how to use words in my art. Origionaly, my face was a structure of lines and vague outlines, then I started shading, then highlights and so on so forth. Soon enough I had finished with my face, however I did not like some aspects, so I continued to tweak it untill I was happy. And when I drcided on words, I used a from Dear Evan Hanson that I relate to. If I could do this over, I would make my face more square, rather than rectangular, otherwise I am happy with my art.
